Dear Members of Club Red,
For the past 10 years I have been having heart palpitations and problems breathing after exertion. I have had several stress tests at UVA that all proved negative. When I went to my family physician this past June of 2008 my blood pressure was elevated and my glucose readings were a little elevated. Already on Lipitor, I realized that I had to change my lifestyle. (I had remembered that my father had his first of five heart attacks at 50 and died at 60; he also had Type-2 diabetes starting at 50 years of age.)
So I started walking and jogging for 30 minutes every day and by the end of July I had lost 10 pounds and by the end of October I lost another 10 pounds. As a result, my heart palpatations have gone away completely and my sugar levels are in the normal range. Also, I eat a low-fat diet now. I do have to say that my doctor scared me to death but he did me a favor. This is a lifestyle that I must maintain the rest of my life.
I decided to participate in the Lt. Govenors' Challenge this past year.
