Pack your bags and your yoga mat

Before you pack your bags, think about making fitness part of your vacation. You don't have to sacrifice fun on your vacation to exercise. While staying in shape normally requires a routine, a vacation is a great time to try something new.
Here are some quick fitness tips for your vacation:
Plan ahead: Use the Internet to find out what's available at your vacation spot, such as walking or bike tours, hiking, swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Even better, choose a vacation destination based on whether it has activities you may enjoy or want to try.
Exercising on the road: Don’t forget to take frequent breaks to stretch your legs, back and neck. A quick game of tag with the kids at a rest area or a lap around the parking lot can energize you for the next leg of the trip.
Exercising in the airport or at 30,000 feet: Skip the escalators and take a walk around the terminal while waiting for your flight. Once you’re airborne, don’t forget to walk the length of the plane at least every 30 minutes. You can also move your legs around in your seat with seated calf raises and ankle circles.
Once you arrive: Many hotels and condos have fitness centers and pools available to guests or affiliations with local gyms – make sure to find out what’s available before you arrive. If the hotel or condo does not offer fitness facilities, consider changing locations or bring along light, easy-to-pack items such as a jump rope, resistance band, or exercise video. Another option is doing exercises such as pushups, squats and crunches that don't require equipment and can be done in a small space. One of the easiest ways to get a workout in your hotel is walk up and down the halls and flights of stairs. However you choose to exercise, make sure to bring workout clothes and walking shoes.
Keep moving: Even when you are not “exercising,” look for ways to stay active and have fun. You can play volleyball, golf or tennis, take a swim, walk or jog on the beach or take a bike ride.
