Braised Cabbage

+ Ingredients

2 Tbsp. canola oil
1/2 medium red onion, sliced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 cup red wine

½ tsp. ground cinnamon
1-2 tsp. ground ginger
Salt and pepper
2 pounds red cabbage, thinly sliced

+ Directions

Heat a large heavy pot to medium

Add oil, sauté red onion until translucent. Sprinkle in brown sugar and cook for a few minutes until sugar is dissolved.

Deglaze with the red wine vinegar. Add red wine, cinnamon, ginger and salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.

Add red cabbage and continue to cook for about 10 minutes uncovered

Cover cabbage and simmer about 45 minutes. Remove. Taste, and adjust seasoning, if necessary.
